I will enter more fishing reports when I get back on the water in the spring. I don’t go fishing very often in cold weather but I understand the fishing can be great.

On The Bands

AG5Z

There has been much improvement in band conditions since my last post. 15 meters is becoming more active frequently to Europe and other DX locations.

Good DX has been showing up on 20 and although the band often closes quite early here, daytime DX has been good and quite often worldwide. It should only get better!

Hopefully 10 will start seeing a bit more action in the near future. The congestion on 20 is really going to increase as the bands start opening up. Many of today’s ops have never experienced world-wide 24 hour band openings and the QRM from all over the globe that often fills the band.

Boy, that will be a nice problem to have again.

The new console continues to work out well. I have in the works setting up a rig switch that will allow the four HF rigs to share the amplifier, a common key, and a single foot switch.

This will eliminate having to move cables when moving from rig to rig.

I am building a patch panel so rigs can be used simultaneously if needed such as in emergency situations where I need to function as an emergency communications center.

I would like to add a way to digitally record and playback received audio. This feature has not yet been designed into the project.

Major NEWS Flash!!

My XYL, Sylvia, passed her technician license test last Saturday, November 15! She not only passed the test but she aced the thing! As you can tell, I am quite proud of her hard work on this.

Her call just came in today. It is KE5YBV.

Guess I had better be prepared to share the ham rigs now. I hope 10 meters opens up a little more often so the HF bug can bite her. I already have the station set up so we can both operate at the same time. I do need to set up the second logging computer for her though.
